Gardening: Tomatoes

I am sure that you have your own hobbies. For those of you who are keen on gardening, these tips for your potted plant may be useful to ensure that your plants are looking nice and healthy. Unhealthy plants may give the impression of neglect.

Dust and dirt may accumulate on the leaves of your potted plant over the time. Apart from causing the leaves to look dull and dirty, they also clogged pores and prevented the cells to function properly. Your potted plant may become an eyesore instead of functioning as a decoration. Spend some time to cleanse your plant by sprinkling the leaves with water and dry them with damp cloth.

SELECTING PLANTS

Select healthy plants from your local nursery, making sure they are not too young and fragile, nor too old and root bound. Leaves should be a rich dark green and preferably plants should not yet be flowering. While the varieties available may be endless, you don’t need to be overwhelmed by this. If you are planting early in spring, go for varieties such as Rouge de Marmande, Apollo, Roma or San Marzano. These are early fruiting types that can endure the cooler mornings of early spring. You can replant other types later in the season so as to stagger tomatoes for a longer cropping period. Your nursery should have details on these tomato types.

You also need to care for the root since it also needs oxygen and water. Make sure that the soil is not too firm due to dryness. Check the soil and water the plant as needed – some herbal plants requires frequent watering and the same goes to the plants that you put in the open. Since the soil available in the container is limited (compared to the one on the ground), you need to change the soil from time to time. This is part of the process to ensure proper drainage and enough nutrients to the plant.

Different plants require different amount of sunlight. Some of them need direct sunlight and some may not survive in the hot sun. If you are planting a plant with multiple colors, you may need to expose it to direct sunlight. Begonias, for instance, need sunlight to bloom, but too much sunlight may dry them. If you are keeping the potted plant indoor, just make sure you bring them outside from time to time, or use suitable light bulb to help plant growth.

Growing herbs indoors will make your house smell nice and provide you with fresh and healthy herbs. You can now grow your own herbs inside the house with little or no gardening skills

There are top tips to care for your lawn.  Just as important as lawn care tips are the lawn care mistakes that we should know how to avoid.  Lawn care and maintenance takes more than simply the usual cutting and watering.

Here are the top ten lawn care mistakes that many folks make.  Some are so common that we think it’s just normal, when in fact it is basically damaging to your lawn.

1.  Cutting the turf too short.  Many people want to save time in cropping our gardens so we decide to cut them too short.  This will give us a longer break between mows, but this doesn’t bode well for your lawn.  The idea here is that removing more than a third of a grass blade will weaken its root system.  This will gradually result to future lawn issues.

2.  No or very little preparation on the planting strategy and methods.  Bear in mind that plants grow better when they are planted at the appropriate depth and spacing.  Naturally, this would require some research about the plant and its most favorable conditions and some preparations to take better care of it.  Conducting soil tests is particularly applicable as the pH balance can help identify which sort of grass is best to grow on your lawn.

3.  Disregarding the difference between mature plants and the young ones.  It might not seem like a gigantic thing, but noting which plants are new and which are mature is significant.  This concern involves the water consumption of the plants.  The water needs of the new and young plants are bigger.  They need more water and they could need to be in a sun condition different from that of the mature and established plants.

4.  Watering and fertilizing at the wrong time and schedule.  A watering schedule is recommended for householders who would like to maintain a healthy lawn.  Watering amounts will depend on the seasonal changes, the climate and weather, and the area.  Generally, the most suitable time to water your lawn would be early in the morning, when you’ll have the least amount of evaporation.  Timing and scheduling also is applicable to fertilizing you lawn.  Depending on your location, fertilization of the grass varies.

5.  Ignoring the importance of mulch.  Mulch is important for lawn care and upkeep due to its various uses.  Mulching can help add or keep nutrient elements in your soil, repel insects, control weeds, and can reduce manure wishes by a third.

6.  Mistaking when to use seed and sod.  Most householders choose one or the other based on the amount of time to build a lawn.  The reality is, you must select between seeding or sodding by the its most beneficial purpose in lawn care.  Sodding helps against soil erosion and is the best in building a new lawn.  Seeding is better in filling gaps and bare parts of a lawn.

7. Using powder products and “green” products.  Power products might be less expensive but they can get blown away before it can get into the soil.  Using natural produce, or “green” products, can be time-consuming since it takes longer to work and a large amount of applications are wanted to achieve results.

we are able to see that these are all normal mistakes.  But we will also see how each of these lawn care mistakes can hinder us from making a great and healthy lawn.
