There is a wide variety of hydroponics that you can choose from on the market. And these systems are classified into six main categories: 1 system
Wick
2 Deep Water Culture Ebb & Flow system
3 4
Drip system
5 Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)
6 Aeroponics
These hydroponic systems are the basic types and other systems on the market are modified versions. Hydroponic systems are classified into passive or active. A passive system depends entirely on the culture medium for the absorption of nutrients from the answer given to the plant as an active system works, with the help of pumps to supply nutrients to plants. Now let’s take a peek at the base of hydroponic systems that are widely used by beginners as well as expert farmers.
1. Wick System: Wick is the first basic hydroponic system that is readily available on the market and is the most preferred by farmers. This passive system with the aid of the wick moves easily from the nutrient solution reservoir to the culture medium. There are many growing media that can be used in the system of roving, but the most popular are vermiculite, perlite, pro-mix and coconut fibers. But, just like the other passive hydroponics wick system is unable to supply enough oxygen to the roots resulting in slow plant growth.
2. Deep water culture: Being an active hydroponic system, this system is the oldest of all hydroponic systems. The plants in this system floating in the nutrient solution enriched, and the solution is pushed with sufficient oxygen for the plant with the help of air pump. This system is ideal for aquatic plants to love and not favorable for larger systems with long growth cycle.
3. Ebb & flow system: This hydroponic system is growing in popularity among many hydroponic growers. Ebb & flow system may be useful in different types of growing medium. As the name suggests this active system is based on the principle of the tides. The nutrient solution used in this system can be emptied and reused, with the help of pump set with the timer. You can buy a timer suitable depending on the main elements, such as size and type of plants, humidity, temperature and culture medium. But, with the advantages there are disadvantages as well, the ebb and flow system is subject to power failures leading to further dry the roots and water cycle disturbed.
4. drip system: This system works best with active divers fixed pump and timer. The filtering system uses nutrient solution to recover as best as possible, because excess nutrients are recycled. Also, the use of timers make available a method controlled hydroponic plant growing. The system of non-recovery work-wise with accurate timer that makes watering very precise and there is less waste of water and nutrient solution.
5. NFT: With the help of a timer, Nutrient Film Technique or popularly known as NFT, effective to provide a continuous flow of nutrient solution to plants for rapid growth. The best feature of this system is that the medium is the air here so the cost of changing the culture medium is reduced. However, NFT requires regular monitoring because there is no possibility of power outages and pump failures that can leave the roots and dried plants.
6. Aeroponics: The most advanced hydroponics, aeroponics as NFT uses air as a means of growth. The roots are suspended early misty. A timer is used to control the regular fogging of these plants. However, special care must be taken because the misting cycles may be interrupted, leaving your roots to dry out.
