A lot of people don’t even know what it is like to have to work hard to make their garden grow. Certain areas, all you have to do is place seed in the ground, do a little watering, and the garden is up and flourishing. However, there are also people in some areas, such as Colorado, who have only a small selection of plants that grow naturally. It can be a tremendous challenge to find a variety of plants that will even be worth a try.

The solution for many people might be to use whatever fertilizer they can purchase, to load up their plants. This usually works, but is not very good for the plants, or you for that matter, if you are planning on eating any of the plants. The chemical substances in fertilizers could be the cause for many of the world’s health problems. The thing that helps some people when cultivating their plants would be to create a microclimate for each one of their plants. Though it requires a bit more work, this doesn’t use chemicals but instead it regulates the sunlight, shade and moisture for each type of plant. You can shape the conditions to make it perfect for each plant.

What you will be working on is modifying aspects of the environment, like customizing compost content, creating wind barriers or shading and varying the amount of water the plant needs. When you are all set to push forward, the first thing you need to do will be to come up with a detailed plan. Locate a large shade tree or bush that can grow quickly, that is natural to your area. You should then look for a location that’s not being used but has plants thriving in the wild. When you can find a plant such as this, it can trigger the growth of another plant which is more desirable. So long as you have a garden that is fenced in, you already have a measure of shade to begin with.

The combination of bush or tree plus the fence is a place to start for the microclimate process. Because of this, you’ll be getting enough shade during the day from both the fence and the tree or bush. The fence will also be utilized to shield more fragile plants from the blowing wind. You’ll end up developing an environment that is great for plants to thrive even though it is man-made. Once that’s done, you will now find the plants that will grow in your modified garden. You are going to now have more choices for what type of plants you want to grow in your garden.

If you need more moisture, then you have the option to include a pond or fountain. This water is not really going to waste, but towards the betterment of your garden. You’ll have a nice looking garden while your fountain or pond indirectly makes your plants develop.
