Tried to grow a herb garden with a mixture of herb plants, but some plants needed more water or sunshine then others and eventually they all died. I need advice on what plants are best potted together. Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Hello. I have sandy soil, live in Michigan, zone 5. The area I want flowers in is about 6×10. The area gets full sun all day and most sun after 2pm. House faces west, the flowers are to be in the front of the house. What flowers are really easy to start with, and what combinations should I use. Any really good websites anyone knows of could help too.

We recently moved into our first home (lived in apartments before). I have always been sort of a frustrated gardener- I’ve had lots of container plants. Now that I have a HUGE yard, I want to start a vegetable and herb garden. The problem is, we have lots of rabbits that visit our yard every day, and there are mice in the field behind us (they come into our yard sometimes). I am an animal lover and do not want to poison, trap, or otherwise “get rid of” these animals, but I don’t want them to eat all my veggies (or make the mouse problem worse). Is there anything I can do to protect my garden or discourage these animals from coming in my yard (I have a dog and a cat, but they still come in).

Any serious ideas would be appreciated.

Can I start an herb garden in late summer?

I’m about to plant my herb garden (I just moved into my new house). Do you think that it will be alright to start it now? I know the perrenials should be alright and I can get some use out of the annuals till the first frost. I live on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. Thanks!

Our fall/winter never gets very cold–only about as low as the low 50s or on rare occasion 40s. Can I start an outdoor (porch) herb garden safely right now? It’s averaging in the 80s in the month of October.
