We have taken Dr. Ingam’s class on the Soil, food, web. Making tea is not just a recipe, but an art. I have made several teas and all worked well. It
is not that difficult.

I am a microbiologist that loves to garden and purchased this book hoping to get some background info and some recipes for how to make some tea. I did not get what I was looking for.
This book, like many pioneering works, is low on details and a little too preachy for a “manual”. I was looking for a “how to” and what I got was a vague pile of information that could have been pulled together by an average internet searcher.

I have gardened organically since 1983, and wish more people knew about this woman’s incredible work. I have found that compost tea, brewed as described here, from healthy, well made compost, can be like a shot in the stem of pure life and vigor to a plant, unlike any other organic or chemical fertilizer I have used. It cleared black fungus and powdery mildew on plants after two sprayings, enabled house plants to resist spider mite, revived orchids that had stopped growing and were starting to fade away, and gave a shot of growth to transplants. The resulting strength, boost in growth, and disease resistance seems to last for 2-3 months before slowing down. Plants that are sprayed seem to resist insect damage better than those next to them, not sprayed. It takes much longer to organically develop soil to the point where plants will grow like this. However poorly prepared, anaerobic compost will produce a tea that actually can infect a plant, e.g. damping off, virtually stopping growth, etc. so know how to make good compost first. This book is revolutionary in expanding the methods available in an organic grower’s bag of tricks. See the well written Table of Contents, p. 57, to go direct to recipies without the science.
