Topsy Turvy, Garden Containers, Upside Down Pots, Growing Tomatoes, Peppers & Herbs Update 5

by admin on May 24, 2010

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July! Not much has changed. Everything still pretty healthy. Bell peppers are changing colors and the cucumbers are doing well. Tumbling Toms are producing several ripe tomatoes every nite. Be warned: I am now formally planning my garden for next year. Boy, am I gonna have some fun! My wife can’t believe we haven’t really even started harvesting a lot of veggies and I’m already looking forward to next year….LOL. Thanks for looking. Any advice, please leave me a post.

Every thing looks good! Especially the cucumbers. Can’t wait to see your garden this year. I have had a vegetable garden for a few years and will definitely have one this year. I grow In Earthboxes but will also have a raised bed this year too.

Awesome! This video completely fascinated me. You have so many upside down plants — I will definitely watch this video again. I bet that you inspire many people on Youtube.

@TheWBarry Thanks tons! I had a blast doing the garden, but i’ve also enjoyed the YouTube experience as well. A lot of very nice people commenting and giving advice. Thanks again! Let me know if you try your hand at the container gardening.

Growing the Brussel sprouts upside down and radishes on top is kind of a genius thing!

Yewtoobnube April 25, 2010 at 11:36 am

@the0prynce Well, I would tend to agree that I have genius tendencies, but that would sound like i’m bragging…LOL….Just Kidding!!! I just figured I’d use the empty patch of dirt on top. Lots of people plant herbs there or flowers that chase away bugs. I planted radishes because they can be eaten in a month. Thanks for commenting!

I am never envious of any man nor get jealous but I envy the work and your “garden”. it is about that time here in kansas to start. Spring is real iffy here. Hell, tonight it is 45 degrees out. Plus we get the spring hail which destroys anything small. I wait till mid may and it seems all to do just fine. Watch that pumpkin close for rot. My friend lost a prize pumpkin because he got a little lazy. Will cucumbers grow well in a 5 gallon bucket on the ground???

Have you ever had to deal with wind damage to your plants? because i have a few that are looking worse for wear because of high winds weve had lately.. also are you suppose to pluck the sprigs off of pepper plants that grow in between branches like youre supposed to do with tomatoes?

aum1705 April 29, 2010 at 7:08 am

it’s look very healthy plants :) I like growing them but they are not that healthy likes your plants..enjoy! :)

Yewtoobnube April 30, 2010 at 10:31 pm

@aum1705 thank you very much. I’d love to see a video of your progress. you would be suprised how many people enjoy watching. put one on for us!

looks like you need some advanced nutrients or some foxfarms

dgmunch May 6, 2010 at 8:46 am

Are ALL of your vegetables growing out of containers? Or do you end up having to transplant them to the ground due to size? Also, did I see you planting broccoli upside down? Also, have you tried strawberries in a topsy turvy? We just started our own on Sunday and I’m seeing some flowers but only on 2 plants out of the 15. Maybe I’m getting a bit excited but we’ll see.

Yewtoobnube May 7, 2010 at 7:51 pm

@dgmunch i grew everything in containers. the only thing that i transplanted was the spagetti squash and it never came around. i had great success with most everything, even the broccoli. let me know how you do with yours ok? if you post a video send me the link or just send me an update! thanks for posting and good luck!

how you got them to grow upside down?

Yewtoobnube May 9, 2010 at 1:55 pm

@HogcrazyNaples i just cut a hole in the bottom of the container and started the plant out upside down. nature does the rest.

HogcrazyNaples May 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm

@Yewtoobnube thank you, will do that.
have you use worm castings?

Yewtoobnube May 9, 2010 at 8:06 pm

@HogcrazyNaples you know i haven’t, but i’ve seen a lot of people on youtube use them. do you?

HogcrazyNaples May 10, 2010 at 6:50 pm

@Yewtoobnube starting this year with castings and compost tea!

Yewtoobnube May 11, 2010 at 4:20 pm

@HogcrazyNaples Thanks for commenting. Let me know how you do ok?

Great video. Love it! I am trying to grow lots of fruit and veg in pots this year (2010) It’s not easy here in the UK though as the weather is a bit temperamental. Bell pepper and chilli plants are both light and heat sensitive, if they dont get enough light or if there is a big temp swing. The flowers drop off. I have this problem. My tomatoes seem to be doing OK though.

Your video is inspirational, thanks
