What basic herbs and spices should I have?

by admin on February 17, 2010

I started cooking and I just wanted to know what kind of basic herbs and spices would I need to invest in?

Like wide spectrum herbs and spices, things that are used in everyday cooking.

Anything outside of herbs and spices are appreciated, too.

I always use garlic powder, lemon pepper, oregano, basil.

I cook a lot of italian and that comes in handy a lot. If you cook different styles you might want to use rosemary, sage, tyme, chili pepper, bay leaves.

good luck in your cookings!

Pepper.
Sea Salt (better for you than iodized salt)
Basil.
Oregano.
Parsley.
Italian Seasoning.
Crushed Red Pepper.
Garlic Powder.
Onion Powder.
Ground Cinnamon.
Nutmeg.
(If your a big garlic and pepper fan, like I am, try: McCormick’s ‘California Style’ Garlic Pepper, with red bell & black pepper. It is SO GOOD! I use it in almost everything)

Others that are great for cooking with, but aren’t so commonly used are: Rosemary, Thyme, Cumin, Paprika, Lemon Pepper.

*McCormick makes Great spices and seasonings*

Also, Olive Oil is great for cooking with! It’s healthy for you and I’ve heard it helps curb cravings and help your appetite control.
