What kind of flowers are good for winter weddings?

I’m getting married on 2/20/10 and I was looking for some ideas for winter wedding flowers. My colors are light pink and espresso brown. I obviously know that roses are always in season, and they will be the staple flower in the bouquets, but I’m also looking for some supplemental flowers for the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. I want to stay away from red flowers (too cliche around Valentine’s Day) and I like the more traditional blooms. Also, I live in Minnesota, if that makes a difference regarding my selection. Try white roses that would be gorgeous with all the snow I think.
Roses of any color will be very expensive during February due to Valentine’s day. What flowers do you like? Hyacinths are in season at that time. Tulips. Most flowers you find in spring will most likely be available. Call up local florists in your area and talk to them since they are the experts.
Ranunculus are available in white and pink and become available in February—I love them because they are kind of like roses but have a softer appearance. You should also be able to get tulips and camellias in pink and white during February. Sweetpeas also come in white and pink and are a really sweet, feminine flower—a good compliment to roses!
Gardenias come in white and are available year-round, but they are very fragrant so I personally don’t think that they are a good choice for weddings. Calla lilies, orchids, and lily of the valley seem to be the most popular wedding choices that are available year-round (besides roses). I am personally using light pink roses and white callas (with bells of ireland in the altar arrangements) at my wedding in April. Hope these ideas help!
If I could get sweet peas, I’d have those too — I love sweet peas!
That late in Feb. I’m looking forward to spring, so I think pussy willow branches would be pretty (pink and pale grey) in arrangements. Stock smells nice, I’d have that in the arrangements too, along with standard carnations and snapdragons and maybe some tulips (they don’t last long though) and calla lilies.
I’d want stephenotis in my bouquet with white and pale pink roses. My attendants would get a more mixed bouquet that would include a few roses (maybe tuba roses) along with pastel mini carnations in green, pale pink and white, but no stephenotis.
alstromeria, amaryllis, carnation. chrysanthemums, gerbera daisy, lily, narcissus, orchid, or statice.
these are all winter flowers and could be used as supplemental flowers. most of them come in light pink also.
mums are sturdy and good filler.. roses.. lilies of many colors are great! use berries for filler.. pepper berries are very common, and come in they are very inexpensive, smell wonderful, but many think cheap… carnations.. and in all colors..
think of filling with loops of ribbon.. it is hot to use lots of fillers like.. crystals, glittering things and tons of greenery.. grasses and the like.. to make it full and elaborate.
always lots of ribbons.. either for the stems or for streamers!
